There was a time when utilizing Bulletin Boards like Headhunter, Resume Blaster and the likes was very impressive and produced quality results. However, there was a recent survey among F1000 companies, which showed that they have declared candidates that use these kinds of services to market themselves as overexposed, untouchables and even to the extent of being risk hires.
This is the current trend in the marketplace, which those not only in the advertising industry but job seekers in other fields must be aware of as well. There has been a paradigm shift and the companies have taken control back and are enforcing hard line policies in staffing the marketplace.

When looking for jobs in the highly competitive world of advertising, there are some points that may get you the job easy. Having experience and showing that in your resume is a good thing (say placing in some samples of ad acmpaigns or graphics work you have done), if you have expereince in the field. Admitting to be fresh out of college is not a bad thing for it allows you to learn and get to know the fields that would be of interest to you as you go on. Experience is the key and reading or reasearching is a good way of keeping up to date with the latest trends in the industry. When you quote your work from previous employers, take only the credit you deserve and tell them specifically the part you played and how you would be effective and a good part of the office you are about to join.
Marketing is more of an art and the art is learned from experience and from good mentors, get one and try to learn as much as you can in the shortest possible time, and try to appreciate the help you get from others.
