post 4There are three trends that have considerable influence on the advertising industry, these are: consolidation, globalization and specialization. Consolidation occurs when small to medium sized agencies with relatively successful track records are bought out by large multinational companies to provide their other clienteles with local service. The income of the agency brought about by the global affiliations or globalization will be based on the global compensation agreements or can also be based on commission calculated from head hours. The trend of specialization have seen many agencies transform and concentrate on one sector of business like finance of health care advertising and for doing so builds a niche in this industry where oftentimes they set the advertising standards. To work in the advertising industry you must learn to be flexible and follow the prevailing trends because the trends now may not necessarily be the trend of the future.

creativeresumeThey are more than your regular resumes, adding a touch of flair to the more than boring standard ones you see from day to day. They also advertise your creativity which is what you are all about. Be unique and experiment with your portfolio that would speak for you even without a single word spoken to such effect. Just be sure to make it clear and direct, not too embellished enough to sidetrack your ultimate goal of landing a job.
When interviewed, show or tell why you made such a resume and discuss you successes in your career so you get your work to speak for you. Be honest and frank but always courteous in your answers, mind your body language as well. But don’t worry too much, job hunting is like fishing, you win some you lose some, and sometimes you get the big one that gets away, but “just keep swimming” as the cartoon fish always said.

presentation.jpgWhen looking for jobs in the highly competitive world of advertising, there are some points that may get you the job easy. Having experience and showing that in your resume is a good thing (say placing in some samples of ad acmpaigns or graphics work you have done), if you have expereince in the field. Admitting to be fresh out of college is not a bad thing for it allows you to learn and get to know the fields that would be of interest to you as you go on. Experience is the key and reading or reasearching is a good way of keeping up to date with the latest trends in the industry. When you quote your work from previous employers, take only the credit you deserve and tell them specifically the part you played and how you would be effective and a good part of the office you are about to join.
Marketing is more of an art and the art is learned from experience and from good mentors, get one and try to learn as much as you can in the shortest possible time, and try to appreciate the help you get from others.
